You don't need to download anything: when connecting to a server not having the map, it will auto fast download it by itself ;-) Some technology we use here, right? xD

When tf2center sets up a lobby, it sets up the game server's "fast download" setting.  This means, as you join, the map will be downloaded, in compressed format, very quickly.

 

If you would like, you can go get the maps before you play.  But this is not required, as the noob has stated.

Yet I'm routinely in lobbies that have huge amounts of sub requests and sometimes even enough to kill the lobby due to people not having the map, and the server not having a fastdl set up.
