I usually use the name "W#3" in steam. This causes issues with the Mumble join URL, mumble complains that it cannot connect to server "w".

Solution: Http encode the nickname, W#3 -> W%233.

We tried this once, only to find out it made things worse. Let's keep most people happy and keep it like this.
