Red Hot Chili Peppers are quite dandy. The song "Storm in a Teacup" includes the line 'You try to be a lady but you're walking like a Sauerkraut', which is pretty great.

 

Then there's Oingo Boingo, who's lead singer Danny Elfman also wrote the soundtrack to abouy 70 movies, including basically all of Tim Burton's work.

My favorite by them is 'Insanity', but their entire Antology album is worth listening to.

Anyone familiar with classic thrash metal would be able to recognize my avatar as Vic Rattlehead of Megadeth fame. I'm a massive metal fan and a fan of nearly all metal sub-genres from traditional (Iron Maiden, Judas Priest) to symphonic (Nightwish, Kamelot) to death (Death, Opeth) to power (Hammerfall, Sabaton) and much more.

 

As for what I recommend to getting started with metal, start with early Metallica stuff from Ride The Lightning to The Black Album (with the latter being a great gateway from rock to metal). Once you've gone through that, you can go towards stuff like Powerslave, Screaming For Vengeance, Rust In Peace, Among The Living, Painkiller, Holy Diver, all of which are metal classics. I wouldn't recommend starting with the heaviest stuff first, as it might turn you off the genre prematurely.

 

I also listen to a lot of classic rock, so things like Zeppelin, Queen, Blue Oyster Cult, UFO, Rush, Deep Purple, and so on and so forth. You really can't wrong with those, and they're pretty much universally adored, and for good reason.

I'm a big metal fan, too (even in a Steam group! http://steamcommunit...s/hugemetalfans )

My deal though is I don't like hardly any American metal; but I adore those in Europe, Gojira is my favorite of all, andlots from Sweden and Norway, you mentioned Opeth, they're great, they were my first good metal concert! I thought they would only play like 4 or 5 songs, you know, cause their songs are long and epic. Nope, they just played for TWO HOURS!!!

American metal had their time in the limelight in the early 90's when Metallica went massive, bands like Megadeth and Pantera were bigger than they ever had been, and there was a big death and black metal underground scene in America. Once nu metal came in, it was still popular, but a lot of traditionalists moved onto symphonic and power metal which was highly popular in Europe. Nu metal has sort of faded away for the most part, and now power and symphonic seems to be the major step for metal to take now, and it looks like Europe will be leading it.

 

Don't get me wrong, America still has good active bands like The Big 4, Lamb Of God, Testament, Dream Theater and Iced Earth, among others, but they're all being eclipsed at the moment.

Oh, I do really like Iced Earth.  

 

My favorite band in high school was System of a Down, now I can't stand listening to them at all lol.  A friend introduced me to Cradle of Filth (lol) and Dimmu Borgir, and I was on my way to becoming one of those sensitive European metal types  I lovingly call Gojira "filthy metal hippies."

 

I did dig Pantera for a while, when I was big into learning guitar (the outro of Floods is super pretty).

Gojira's sort of a band on my watch list at the moment in the sense that I've not really listened enough to them, but I know they're good, and I know I need to get around to do so. It's just I have to listen to other bands too.

 

If you're into tech death, then melodic death will probably be up your street. Bands like At The Gates and Children Of Bodom are solid bands that combine symphonic-like riffs with death-like speed and ferocity.

For me, that song falls into the "so bad it's good" category. There's a lot of stuff out there that doesn't even warrant that distinction.

Yeah, that's why it became a meme in a lot of countries. But i can't listen to this without laughing... that's so stupid and it seems like they are doing it seriously

I don't even know where to begin on VGM. There's so much great soundtracks from systems of any generation of gaming. I love soundtracks like Ninja Gaiden and Silver Surfer on the NES, but I also love sountracks from more recent games like Modern Warfare 2 and Crysis 2 (Hanz Zimmer can do no wrong).

 

But probably my favourite video game music has to come from the Crash Bandicoot games, in particular 1, 2 and 3. For example:

 

 

Such a great track that represents the environment of the level, is lively and is pretty much going to appeal to any gamer's musical taste.

Mainly the metalz. All kindsa metalz. From your basic 4: heavy, thrash, black, death, to speed, power, doom and prog and a bit of neo.

Most representative artists would include Black Sabbath/Ozzy, MetallicA, Slayer, Immortal, Candlemass, Testament, Macabre, The Project Hate.

 

Then we have the rock, any rock would be fine but modern/alternative. The classics such as 'Purple, AC☇DC, Accept, Floyd and some obscure croatian/bulgarian rock. :3

 

From the rap I like the EMINEM fellow, up to Encore at least. Lost interest after that. Some other shit like NWA, Dre but not too deep interest there.

 

Vidya game music and misc: Weird Al is cool, DOOM 1 and 2 OST (which is mostly metal anyway).

 

If I'm to share a track, it'd be System of a Down. An accessible band that's 100% original in it's music and doesn't fit well genres.
