One of the main reasons people use chat is to ask for a lobby. Would it be crazy to automatically create a lobby based on that?

Obviously you'd need to determine a limit so there aren't way more lobbies than players.

Who would be responsible for the server?

Seems like an okay idea, but like Talon said you would have to select someone to lead the lobby. The obvious answer is someone with a high number of played lobbies and/or server administration experience. Then you run into a whole slew of problems like who pays for the servers, how many people have to vote for a map, division, and location.

Something like "!vote pl_barnblitz NA UGC" would be ideal, that way stuff like like "lets get some fucking NA lobbies going" gets ignored.

It would be awesome if wildcard modifiers were accepted so it could be "!vote * NA UGC would automatically support the oldest vote for any NA lobby running UGC configs.

For the servers, we could use serverme. But a smarter option would be for people to 'donate' their server when they aren't online (a bunch of people have expressed interest in that). The only problem is: what happens when they come online and their server is being used without them?

One thing is is to have them read some agreements, which includes not stopping the lobby in the middle of the game.

To get even more fancy, if their server is being used without them, they could have access to the serverme API to create their lobby, which simultaneously soothes their urges to be a lobby leader while tickling their pickle about donating to always access the serverme API.

This is a good long term option because it can be fully automated.

A long time ago a feature called "Lobby voting" was implemented, but removed to speed up the live release. The code is still there, but currently disabled.

It basically came down to a modal, next to Create Lobby, where a Player can select all the maps + game types he likes to play. Every minute, a background task performs a voting round for those who are not in a Lobby, resulting in the creation of the highest voted map.

It's not too difficult to put this stuff in production, but we would get a shit ton of open Lobbies even more. I would say that our current problem is the filling of Lobbies rather than opening them. Let's focus on that first, and we will deal with the voting stuff later.

MotherTereza did have an algorithm to calculate the number of lobbies a region should have, but I see your point.

maybe 0.1% of lobby leaders choose their maps or makes lobby when people ask ''make this lobby'' at chat...
