Hi Everyone.

My community recently created a competitive server to use with TF2Center. In the past I was able, to spectate using the password that TF2Center provides. This was working for a little while, until your Februrary 16th update. I was just wondering if you could possibly add an exception so that server admins may join and watch from spectate? This used to be possible  :(; I miss being able to spec my community's team.

Let me know if you guys have any plans for this in the future. Thanks, and have a great weekend  :D !

Just a thought, but shouldn't it be possible to activate SourceTV on the server and spectate there?  I don't know if you have tried this, but if not maybe that would work ...

I have never worked with SourceTV before, but I guess I could look it up and see about setting it up. Thanks for the tip :)

If he's renting the server from a server company it might cost him more money to get SourceTV. From memory the provider I used to use a while back charged an extra £5 a month or something like that. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Yeah,  that's certainly possibly and you would also need a slot for it.

Nfoservers, where I rent from does not charge extra (aside from the extra $1 per month for an added player slot), but any server being used for comp (at least in UGC, don't know about other leagues) requires STV to be on the server for opposing team's players and to record an STV demo, this may not apply if the server is only being used on this site though ...

I assume the slots are not an issue since you want to spectate which would take a player slot anyway so maybe just look into weather or not your server provider charges you or not.  If it does not then that might be the easiest way to do it, in some cases it is as easy as clicking a button on your web control panel for the server to activate STV, depending on your provider you may have to use .cfg files to activate it on the server, so depending on how much you know how to do through ftp with .cfg files on the server it could get a bit complicated but ultimatly isn't too dificult once you figure out which file the commands need to go into.

Well, my clan's owner is paying a set rate for just one dedicated server. And we run all of our servers from that one box. It is more cost effective, and you get more bang for your buck ;). I looked into setting up SourceTV, and tried to set it up according to Valve's specifications. It would say SourceTV is not running. I tried joining with players to see if maybe it would auto-stream when people were online, but no dice. I guess I'm just S.O.L :(.

STV is just another slot on a server. If you will join as the spectator, anyway additional slot will be taken. The difference between STV and spectators' mode, that in STV slot can be unlimited number of viewers simultaneously. And all of them will be counted as 1 single slot. But usual spectators mode will occupy 1 slot per person.
So I don't see a problem here. If you need to spectate your matches, just buy additional STV slot. This is much more profitably.

Slots aren't an issue, we have plenty.
