There's no legit need to make 10 slot changes per second and it just makes it harder to kick that person from the lobby.

As a lobby creator, +1. It's annoying seeing people bounce around in slots, especially if I need to kick them for w.e reason.

I do this myself sometimes if there's one slot left on the server. So people can still choose between two classes.

But how can  I dance around on the lobby page if there would be a cooldown!

jk. Yes I agree with having a cooldown, it would help with kicking people that are being annoying. It can be pretty frustrating kicking trolls that fly around all over the place.

why after 2-3 changes?  I support this after 1.

Maybe you can only change slots every 10 sec.

Having a cooldown after 3ish fast switches will allow players who accidentally join the wrong slot the ability to quickly change to what they actually wanted without risking losing it by being stuck on the wrong thing.

I personally like the idea of allowing 3 switches, then have a 10 seconds cool down. So if someone miss clicks, they can get to their class. Then 1 more switch for good measure.

Once upon a time a "throttler" was implemented for this reason (+ the performance overhead this would cause), but we took it out because it was rather annoying than helpful. In general, I prefer setting up stuff in a "loose" way, so people can always use the site in a way they like, rather having this tight set of rules and throttlers to restrict them. The question is: does the current rate abuse really outweigh the effort to re-implement this?

Try to kick someone who is doing this. If you miss, you take their old slot instead of kicking, or kick someone else (if someone else took the slot first).

So the real problem is that the kick button keeps moving. Limiting slot change frequency is one obvious way to stop that. Making it stationary by other means would also be a fine solution.

Another way to combat this might be to add some form of dropdown with all of the names for kicking/banning from a lobby, as to still be able to kick them even if they are moving, without having to limit the lobby.

Yes, or a visible (moused-over) button panel could retain its visibility and meaning for a few seconds after the underlying slot's state changes.

That would preserve the look and feel while still solving the hide-n-seek problem.

Cool idea.

Hum, i think that the cooldown is a good idea. But 10 seconds is pretty high :( I think that 5 seconds of cooldown is a better option.

Also, the leader should be able to lock slots and force a cooldown.

What I hate most about lobbies is that how people "troll" by constantly switching spots in a lobby. I think there should be a 3 second cooldown in switching classes while a lobby is filling up so there won't be any douches not letting people pick the class.

I can see both sides of this, but I think there should be some form of cooldown for switching slots. There's really no harm in putting say a 3 second cooldown on every switch or something. One of the things that is especially annoying for me is when you're browsing lobbies and see 4 different classes flashing. This makes it hard for people to tell which are available to join.

As a server owner, I agree that there should be something. Before it sounds like there was a set amount of time between each change, and it didn't work. I would say after 2 (or three) or more changes, to implement a few second "throttle" because it is a happy medium. If you make a mistake for joining a class, not a big deal. If you spam, well it'll slow you down. If server owners try to kick or ban, it will be easier after they make two changes. I don't foresee a reason why you would need to change class more than a few second after two or three switches...and even so, you should pass the throttle threshold before you switch again.

When someone is in a lobby constantly switching between classes, they should get a cooldown on how often they can switch, so that it's easier for people to see what slots are actually open.
