How do you actually get five stars?
I've gotten better and better logs since I reached four stars, and have been stuck here for months. Is there a counter we can see as to how to get to five stars or do we just get there when we get there? I only ask because it kind of seems like bs to me that I've been playing for months and haven't gotten there eyt.

Advanced Lobbies are currently suspended, so there is no way to get your stars up until AL's come back ;-)

You can't go past 4 or you can't get any at all? I had 0 stars on soldier during AL's and I got my first during a viaduct lobby a week or two ago.

Your star ranking changes dependent on your TPR and also your league experience.

Stars still change. I was able to get up to 5 stars temporarily. I believe the skill difference between 4 and 5 stars is much bigger than between between 3 and 4 stars. Unless you have plat experience, which really helps bump your stars, it's very difficult to get 5 stars.
