A little bit late but anyway. The recent AL open beta has done exactly what we intended it to do. We have made a lot of observations about the good and bad of ALs. The TF2C team is very grateful to the players that have helped us learn about ALs functionality.
Primary among the shortcomings:
- Filling time started out good, but vary too much for a different day hours causing waste of players time and servers idling. This has shown us that perpetual auto-spawning mechanics doesn't work well enough and requires alternative solution which is already in development.
- Team balance is still not working as well as we want. Although there IS a statistical edge that goes to AL over regular "casual" lobbies with regards to even games.
- Perpetual map cycles mechanics doesn't fits well into players demands and requires another approach. New promising feature is aimed to resolve this issue.
- Stars and rankings. We very appreciate a hot discussion about these rankings and going to improve it too.
