Neither the auto-connect nor the reconnect button seems to work for me right now. If I click them nothing happens, no pop up or anything. I have no idea what triggers this, if you have any workarounds I would appreciate them.

Ugh!
Try this. after the lobby starts, there is a refresh. The button has text that you can copy/paste into your developer's console in tf2. This connect string should connect you if your game and if the lobby leader's game server are both working correctly.
