What do you think about a TF2Center pub-server?

I think it should have nocrits and the known whitelists (comp style).

 

Since EU doesn't have any "popular" nocrit servers (it's a shame!) there's actually a good chance that it'll be a success!

I kind of like that idea. Though I'm not sure about the whitelist.

Though funding it could be an issue as long as we don't have a 'Donate' button.

That would be great. Though it would be nice to have servers in different regions.

Let's see what the devs/admins have to say.

My only concern would be stretching of the dev/mod team. Having someone wanting to donate a server already figures out the financial problems, but as long as we can find some people, probably active members, who could take on the responsibility of managing a pub server, I'd be for it. However, it might not exactly fit in with the grand strategy. 

 

Also, how would you feel about having it as an MGE or SOAPDM server instead? I feel like that would cater to our demographic, provide a service which people want, and be a whole lot easier to manage than a 24 slot pub.

Well,I guess a pub nocrit server would perfectly fit in the topic of TF2Center "from pub to competetive". The point is there are plenty european MGE server out there. That's why a nocrit pub would be highly appreciated since it would be the first one. You just have to look at North Amerca,they got many nocrit servers,too,so why shouln't that work in Europe? The thing is just you have to get this popular and get players for this. Donation is not that big of a problem,because obviously JP- got a server. 

 

Also I got the idea that the server could work as a "waiting room" for lobbies ,too So while you wait for the lobby to fill,you could play on an european nocrit server. Maybe with some sort of plugin how far your lobby is from beeing filled.

And why are you talking abount financial problems? TF2Center once had a donate-button and they removed it.

I would like to provide the server because it's fun for me, not because the devs don't want to spend that much money.

I like the idea of a SOAPDM, they're really lacking (at least in Europe). It would work wonders as a waiting room too.

What is SOAPDM?

It is a sourcemod plugin for TF2 tournament servers which adds a pre-game deathmatch. You respawn instantly and regenerate health over time.

As I've said on the other thread, I like this idea. It would serve as a perfect waiting room for lobbies

Instead of having a 20 person server, make 2 10 person servers instead. Once you get past 5v5, it's a bit of a mess.

Nah,soapdm is an horrible idea. So JP- got a server,you got the players ... if we act together we can get a nocrit european pub server filled. It could be a kind of warmup for TF2 Center lobbies (so for comp). Not anybody wants to play mge or soapdm as a warmup. 'It doesnt have to be just for TF2 Center anybody should be able to join and just play a clear pub,which most difference is,that it is nocrit.

Because there are enough soapdm server and the idea was to create a nocrit highlander pub ( no mge,no soapdm etc.) server.

BTW: We tested it today and got 19 players at max on the server and we played nearly 2 and a half hour on it with just randoms and without making the server even "popular". That shows that it should work to even make it (nearly) 24/7 and there are many players who want to play on an european nocrit server. (if you want proof --> screenshot). If TF2Center would be accepting to support it or even post it on their side as a kind of "waiting room" - warm-up pub where you wait till the lobby fills ... we should be able to create a server that is a credit for the players and for TF2Center.

There would need to be atleast 3 of them: US pub, EU pub, and AU pub.. probably more for it to be used as a 'waiting room'.

IMO, start with EU, test out the idea. Then move on to other areas.
