First time joining a advanced lobby and I couldn't connect to the actual TF2 server, I joined mumble easily, same as always.
Once everyone had ready'd up TF2 automatically launched but froze when I got to two bars on connecting to server so I canceled and tried again using the re-connect button but still had the same problem, few seconds later I got a message saying "failed to connect after 4 retries" I kept trying but after a while I was reported.
I don't know if this is a problem with TF2, my internet or TF2C I just don't like having a ban history especially for something that's not my fault.

First off, cooldown bans are not really going to ever be viewed as a big issue. Don't sweat it.
Sorry to say, this sounds like a localized issue with your PC and/or with your network, ISP, etc. The rest of the group played the lobby out just fine and connected just fine.
There may be a small chance that, on another occasion, you were IP banned from that serveme server. I'm not sure how serveme handles that.
