Making a good bug report will not only make it much easier for the admins to read but will also be much easier and quicker to fix. Here are some ways to help out the developers and make sure the bug report you post is a good one!
Make sure we don't know about the bug already.
Far too often people don’t check the list of bugs to see if the bug has already been reported. If there is already a bug report thread then your bug report won’t be approved by the admins!
Make a short, descriptive title
You don’t need to include all of the details of the bug report in the title. Just make sure your title gives us a basic idea of what's wrong.
Write your post in good English
The staff members at TF2Center understand that English is not everyone’s first language. We don’t expect perfect grammar or spelling but if we cannot understand you then we can’t fix the bugs!
One bug per thread only
This makes it much easier for developers and admins to track the status of bugs. Threads are normally tagged to indicate the status of the bug report which means a thread with more than one bug cannot be tagged correctly!
Give us as much detail as possible
The more we know about the bug, the easier it is for the developers to find and fix the problem. Include all the relevant information such as:
- Error codes/names
- Exactly what you were doing/trying to do when the bug happened
- When the bug happened
- Any other information relevant to the bug e.g. lobby number, steam id, screenshots of the bug, recording of the bug etc.
Ideally the developers will be able to follow a set of steps to reproduce your bug. If we can't see the bug ourselves then we don't know what might be going wrong and it won't get fixed.
Don't rant in your thread
It won't get the bug fixed any quicker, it makes you look silly and it might get you warned and/or banned as offensive language is a breach of our rules.
