What would be the best way to get a server ready for a lobby? I'm sick of waiting for someone to open a lobby. I'm also willing to chip in for monthly costs no problem

I'd imagine that any server provider in your area would be fine. However possibly you should ask around your friend circle a bit and see if anyone has a server first. Looking at Fragnet, A 6v6 server would cost 10.50 Euros a month while a HL server would be about 15.

Have you checked out serveme.tf for rentals? I've heard mostly good things about them, and they have NA/EU presence.

serverme.tf is the way most servers are started. I've been on rented servers before and they are mostly stable and reliable with the odd exception.

However if you live on a university campus or another private network (like myself) you might want to be careful setting up servers as I've been unable to in the past. I think it's because my university has closed a port that is required to host servers but I'm not sure of the exact reason.

All I know is that whenever I've tried to set up a lobby with a rented server I get a "broken pipe" error and nobody else I know seems to have this problem. I've tried multiple servers on multiple occasions so no luck.

"Broken pipe" means: the lobby server has banned the TF2Center server IP, so it cannot connect anymore. This happens when too many false RCON attempts has been made.

That's weird because it happened the first time I tried to start the lobby. Is this previous RCON attempts from other people renting the server? If this is the case when do these IP bans lift (if at all)?

According to the guy running serveme.tf that shouldn't be possible, but I could be wrong

Moved to lounge as this is not a suggestion or request as such.
