The idea being that if we need a medic and none is coming, the scout can say !become blu med or whatever, and this closes the med report and opens a scout report.

This is actually a great idea, I've seen this situation come up more than a couple of times.

Can also work the other way. For example: if a spy leaves, the medic can become the spy and the waiting game has started again.

Unless you make it so you can't swap to popular classes.

It already does happen the other way, just without the convenience of auto-updating the report and with an unnecessary hit to the switcher's reliability.

The idea is not a magical solution to the "no medics" problem.  It's to enable/simplify an action that ought to be available to players.  If a desirable slot opens, someone in the lobby has as much right to it as someone outside.

Great Idea ... Nothing is worse than responding to a sub position and finding out that a player in the lobby has taken the position and they expect you to play something else that you can't (as in are garbage at the class) or don't want to play resulting in them kicking you when you explain that you came for X spot and you getting a lowered reliability percentage.

In 6s you should only be able to switch to med. Otherwise mega abuse.

Agreed. In HL, you should probably only be able to switch to Med/Engy/Heavy.

How?  Are they going to report someone just to take their spot?

Its more that as soon a spot free's up, the med might take it. And its usually hard to find a good med sub.

it doesnt make much sense. u can still play medic till the sub is coming! and when there is a sniper or spy missing u will see alot of chatmessages like "!become blu spy". this  would not be a very usefull feature !

No, you can't switch as it is now, because there is no way to fill your original slot without kicking you (or hoping the sub is willing to play your class, even though he signed up for a different class).
