..I was thinking in order to promote tf2c, There could be "sponsored" (in name only) tf2c teams built from active players for the various leagues and formats.

Maybe give them a pat on the back in the interface by giving them a special icon or color or something.

I'm not sure what you mean by this. Are these sponsers corperations? Other players? TF2C itself? Are these sponserships paid deals?

As he said, they would  be sponsored by being able to use the TF2C name only.

What would the point be? The players won't be able to wear the TF2C| tag in their steam name either as that is filtered for developers and admins on the site, you can't log in otherwise.

I played for a team a while back (Killer Sandviches) and we got a sponsor from Team Awesome, which basically meant we were part of that community, but we could also access their services (mostly server usage). In return, we would passively advertise for Team Awesome by wearing the tag.

I think that's what our friendly neighborhood cow is suggesting. Though perhaps instead of finding an existing team, TF2C creates one with active lobby players. I have no idea how feasible this is in the near future though.

What are we gonna do about the name filter? None of our sponsered players will be able to log into TF2C without changing their name.

They could have a similar yet different tag, or the filter could just let them through.

I still don't understand what the point of these is. Perhaps I'm just dumb but there seems to be little to no benefit to either the team nor the website in doing this in my opinion.

They could have a similar yet different tag, or the filter could just let them through.

So now we have a bunch of people with a similar tag to the admins running around on the website. What if one of them decides to be a smartass and start impersonating the admins?

Similar tags is an issue, I agree.

Just thinking promotion-wise, it would be cool to have  a sucessful top-tier team in each league with some sort of up-front affililation.

Promotion wise is good and it's really simple. "Everything is awesome when you're part of a team". Nothing makes me want to play TF2 more than when my team is online. A sense of belonging for players will encourage people to play!

My fear is that if we have a team made from scratch, it will probably be low level (though I might be completely wrong). Which is fine, though it can have TF2C loose credibility if they're really not that good.
