STV would be a good idea for this minus the fact that the server doesn't react well to having a large number of STV viewers. (As kkaltuu stated)

In general server operators set a max STV when they enable STV on their server.  I think I have mine set at 5 people max for example, so there is really no reason this should be a problem.

Hey devs. VVaze and YGG had some ideas for integrating twitch streams with TF2Center.

The basic ideas behind this are:

-show Twitch streams on the side
-give players an icon to indicate they're streaming
-show which lobby has a streamer in it
-create an overlay to help players be more professional (and promote TF2C)

Edit:
-Since we have total control of the site we can show which class / game mode the streamer is playing.

This will create more interaction with the community. The players that are streaming are helping the newer players by showing how competitive TF2 works. (medics clicking on a streaming medic's icon to see what they do on a map).
It also helps TF2Center because we can provide players with an overlay and get more players in touch with our wonderful site.
We can also reserve the top stream for a donation or whatever we think is "right" for the spot.

me and VVaze made a quick mockup on how it might look like.

For what it's worth, to detect profiles you can either create a subsection of the site and let players apply for a stream (and let admins link the TF2Center profile to the twitch stream) or do it like TF2Pickup:  http://i.imgur.com/CWTEb1a.png

I'm not a huge fan of the design you came up with, but that's a fairly minor issue at the moment.

For the idea itself, I love it. You could also have a page with everyone's steam going on, with their map, format and class (arguably the lobby number), so people don't have to hunt streamers down through the lobbies.

well same old same old complaints: well whoever streams must abide by some rules. Everyone would have to run regular delay etc. Idea in general might be a good thing. yet i dont think it should be just given away to everyone. maybe have it as a privilige rather then an all around thing.

As a fellow streamer, it goes without saying that this would help the community and TF2center overall. You can check TF2outpost.com for a template on how they did the overlays for streams on their website. The twitch icon could be smaller in my opinion. Having a class icon so people know what class the streamer is playing seems very useful for people who would like to learn more and improve.

Overall, great idea, it should definitely be implemented.

the shown images are only concept-art ofc, and show only the basic principles of the idea. The final thing would look of course a lot more refined, to fit seamlessly into the tf2center design.

Retired streamer here! Great idea, I really like that TF2Center thinks of supporting TF2 streams. It's sad that this game is not streamed much since there's not that big audience which doesn't engourage streamers to continue. Were you thinking of creating twitch group where you invite streamers, like TF2.tv, extv etc?

Also I personally like the design since it shows the little image screen whats happening on the channel B)

Yeah I'm all for it, I stream sometimes too and I almost always play a few lobbies when I do, this would make it easier for whomever is watching to join up and interact with the streamers, or for people in the lobby to take a peek and possibly have some fun with it. Streaming is all about interaction with the viewers after all. Plus this system has been pretty successful in tf2pickup already so I don't see why not.

Really like the idea! There are a lot of sites that incoporate this - etf2l, TF.tv, Reddit and, most recently, TF2Outpost. As a streamer it's nice to see people who pop in and say "Saw you on Outpost/Reddit! Loving the stream" who otherwise would have been unaware of TF2 streamers. A lot of people who play on Center are relatively new to comp TF2 so may be unaware of the streaming community out there, and could probably pick up a lot from some of the higher-level players who stream then playing lobbies.

Fiddle with the layout a bit and I reckon it will look awesome :)

I think the twitch streaming icon and the streams could look a little bit less obnoxious.. they seem too out of place in the mockup.

Looks like a very good idea,if this project can help the newer player how to play properly. This can really involve the community into the tf2 comp.

The idea itself is good except the method that you have chosen to promote it. This silly flashmob won't help to discuss it constructively, moreover stupid repetitive "bump" and "+1" comments are only creating an obstacles while extracting useful info from this thread. If you want to rate this suggestion, there is a "Rate Topic" option in the header of the topic. You can leave your vote there.

The second thing is mockup. Mockup from YGG and Waze isn't the DESIGN. It is just a suggestion. So stop focus on discussion of icons sizes, elements positions etc, leave this for me to decide, better focus on the list of features that you want to see.

Last thing. Before posting new ideas, try to use "search" on a forum. There is already 2 active threads about this feature and on of them is started by Kkaltuu:

  1. http://forums.tf2cen...ingbroadcasting (already marked as scheduled)
  2. http://forums.tf2cen...er-user-streams

Should've used the old topic yeah. Although this came a bit out of the blue since there was a lot of discussion on LAN. MN and Jay seemed really happy with it, but in the end it's the lead designer's call ^^

I appreciate your efforts, but suggest you do not waste your time on fantasies about design layout, because you have no idea about front-end structure and ongoing work. Both mockups doesn't fit into current and planned structure. Instead of this can you just make a list of preferable features?

I've added them in bold on the opening post, in case you have trouble finding them.

1. Could you describe, what kind of information should contain area with Twitch streams? User name + number of spectators online? Something else?
2. Is Twitch the only one streaming platform that people want to use on TF2C?
3. Implementing this feature pushing us towards further development of the user profile and especially "user settings". What kind of information should users provide to register their stream?

Is there a reason to show the number of spectators? Honestly, IMHO it only serves to make the #1 streamer remain #1. I think Username + broadcast title (at least the first 15 characters or so) would be better than Username + spectators or all three.

I like the TF2 Pickup idea of showing the streams of people currently playing lobbies, but not when they aren't lobbying. I don't know the technical information behind this but that's how it is. For donators, your stream is shown at all times. I know as yet there are no donators.

There may be problems allowing people to register and showing their streams instantly. I know TF.TV make you steam for 5+ days to show you're committed and not a troll but it's a lot of checking. I suppose if you guys need more staff to do that, and you want to do it, cool.

My first thought when I see integration of twitch streams with tf2center is "Oh boy, now it's super easy to stream snipe and make someone's day absolutely miserable in front of viewers!"

Needless to say I don't necessarily think it's a great idea. It just feeds people like me.

My idea for this would be the following:

1.Starting with the information. We have to get the basic stuff in like the name of the broadcaster and the titel of his stream. Maybe a picture preview would be nice aswell? Someone also brought up the idea that it shows who in a center currently streams aswell.

I also saw that on the csgo twitch page you can sort for diffrent skillgroups or maps. Meaning a newer player lets say a sniper has problems playing koth viaduct. So he looks up the list sorts it and finds a gold sniper that plays that map maybe. It seems a bit too much but i want to maybe push it in the general direction.

2. For the streaming sites I ld go with twitch.tv, are there even any other streaming platforms? ^^

3. I wouldnt give everyone a right to be on the main page. I would say apply over the forums. Give some personal information name age country COmp history goals for the stream.

This is just some ideas i came up with on the spot
