Twitch.tv TF2 section got a huge boost when trading sites embedded the TFTV stream list. I would suggest having a place where either the TFTV stream is displayed or a list of current TF2C user streams.

Players should be allowed connect info to spectate lobbies if they prefer. Here's an example, if I saw a famous TF2 player playing in a lobby, I want to spectate. I wait in spectate until the lobby starts and a pop up box asks if I want to spectate the lobby or not. If I click "Yes", the pop up box gives me connect info, and if I click "No", the pop up box redirects me to the TF2Center lobby page. Now when I get in the server, somehow magically, I get assigned to "Spectate". I cannot switch teams, and I'm stuck in spectate unless I disconnect to the server. This will ONLY be allowed if the server has enough slots for spectators to connect.
Mumble wise, when you click "Yes" in the pop up box, you get redirected to the spectating room of that lobby in the Mumble. This allows you to listen to whichever team you want to listen to, but you are muted until the lobby is over.

Triiiple,
This is a great idea. I have some sort of "fantasy" tf2center of 2020 in my head that has a player as well as spectator aspect to things. You can find friends or popular people and see the lobby, and maybe even check out the live stream from the lobby page (no tf2 required.) I know that e-sports and stream watching is on the verge of erupting.
The spectator aspect could show the streams in order of most being watched.
In the mean time, friend me, and I can send you my p-rec demos.

Somehow OpenCenterTV's post was hidden.
It's an interesting idea. However, it's not clear how much of a demand there is for such a service. It would definitely make TF2C look more serious.

I talked with my son a length about this. (He is an expert at watching streams.)
Our pie-in-the-sky discussion was it would be cool if, during prime time (whatever that means) there would be a personality or two that would surf through the popular lobbies and cast hot and/or random games. Maybe this opens on the main page. This would open up the user of this site to a new class of user, the "watcher."

Sounds like a great idea, however reminds me of the following topic: http://forums.tf2cen...ng-and-mentors/
My response to that one also applies to this.
Edit: That would be:
This would fit in the grand scheme of "from public to competitive", where people could actually learn something by watching others play. The question is if that needs to be implemented for every Lobby.
I like this idea, but when and in what form it will be implemented is unsure.

So basically, once spectator option is dealt with, this should follow.

Sometimes I come to tf2center not for playing just to see which people are participating in the game . I see people like Lazyfinger , Mouhammed(sorry if there's a spelling mistake) playing already . Cannot join cause its full .Then all I wanna do is just watch the match in peace , maybe record the stv and cast it . Most servers are from servemeand even if they are not almost 95% of them have Source TV . However even after asking the lobby creator the stv join information is not provided . It's kind of sad for me .
Dear admins , if its not too much too ask could you please make an option where two stv slots are provided in additional settings so that if lobby creator checks the option they can join join stv and watch the game in peace .
Thank you .

There are two merged threads here.
The only problem with this is that some servers don't have SourceTV, but TF2C could just say "server doesn't have STV!" in that case.

It's really simple:
if tv_enable is set to 1, STV works, the only thing you have to do is get the value out of tv_port (which is often 20 ports higher than the normal gameserver)
But the thing is, why would you want to do that? STV isn't like dotaTV, you can't tune into any caster, it's just a delayed spectate feature.
If you're interested in watching casts, you should follow www.twitch.tv/blackoutgamingtv or www.twitch.tv/teamfortresstv, or specialised streamers like www.twitch.tv/fanny_filth
That plus if there are too many viewers on an STV, the gamerserver will be influenced since they're running on the same core. (hence we use relays for bigger matches).
imho, if you want to spectate you should ask the lobby leader for the details. But feel free to elaborate with extra reasons for implementing this.

There are some topics that an STV feature has been brought up in. Some of the staff comments have sounded positive toward the possibility of this happening someday.

I think his point is that he wants to cast some matches from lobbies through stv. If he is the one casting he can broadcast to twitch and such. This is similar to how a lot of dota casters started out actually, and I personally think that tf2 could benefit from being more of a spectator sport.
I think a decent solution may to have this configurable upon lobby creation. Have the lobby leader able to set how many slots the lobby will support for stv and allow those to be filled similar to the slots that already exist in the lobby. Possibly on a separate tab or something. This solution would give the creator of the lobby ultimate control over the situation while facilitating it better and more officially than having people randomly ask for the connection info in chat.

If you're interested in casting, lobbies would be much less good than actual matches. You can jump in most servers' stvs in the evening when actual teams are playing.

I don't really see how casting a lobby is any worse than casting a match in a league. Even dota casters go in pub dota matches to practice casting. And even if it could be shown to be objectively worse, I don't see how it matters; why intentionally hinder people in a way that only affects people who have a use for it.

Think big. Maybe some day this is a place where top level people would have rocking high-level games. I think the draw could be the fame of casting, the casting could be drawn by talent.

You misunderstand. I think casting would be great in lobbies. I don't think they need to be huge games for it to be a thing though.

STV would be a good idea for this minus the fact that the server doesn't react well to having a large number of STV viewers. (As kkaltuu stated)
Posted 18 July 2014 - 02:58 PM
That could be fixed by having a "spectator team" people join before the lobby starts, with a limit of, for example, 5 (I have no idea how much a server can take).
