I was wondering if it's possible to host lobbies for non-standard maps (e.g. 6v6 cp_steel). I think that it would be a good way to test what maps could be viable for competitive without committing a whole league to it. Sorry if I broke any forum rules btw, I'm new to comp tf2. Thanks in advance!
Non-standard maps?

I'm no admin, but i can tell you that making lobbies with unpopular maps is fine, but the only problem is finding a cooperative group of people willing to play the map alongside you. But considering the map is unpopular, if it takes time to start, as in, too much time, you ill be urged to close it, as having a lobby open on the page, whether it's filling or not, prevents a lobby with a more popular map being played or opened, since there is a limit to how many lobbies may be open at one time. And about the special rules for unpopular maps, recently, Pitts (who is sort of an admin, or at least to my understanding) has been kind of cracking down on them, and established a rule that if a lobby with an unpopular map doesn't start within an hour, you'll be urged to close it. I don't know the exact rules Pitts has set up, but i'm sure they'd be glad to inform you about them.
P.S: if you're new to comp tf2 and want to create lobbies, i'm sorry to inform you that in order to create a lobby on tf2center, you need 50 lobbies played.

there is no rule to what maps are "allowed" but you might get randomly banned if you make unpopular maps even tho its not in the rules
