Idea/Suggestion Type:
Mumble
Description:
It would be better if the communication system was changed to discord because, I believe there are more people who have already installed and used discord.
Pros/Cons:
-Discord is easier to use
-It has a friendlier user interference
-Many more just look at the discord website.

The problems are that:

  • All users will be required to download discord and create an account, and then accept a join invitation to use it.
  • There is currently no way to auto-connect a user to the voice channel corresponding to their lobby.
  • We would need to completely re-code the mumble required lobbies auto-ban system to work with the new program.
  • There is no viable way to have channels auto-created and auto-deleted as lobbies are opened and closed. This would require a system of bots that we would have to code ourselves, which we do not have the resources for.
  • Our mumble server's uptime is 99.99% where as discord's voice channels tend to go offline somewhat frequently. This means that there will practically never be an instance where lobbies cannot function because there will always be a voice server online.
  • Because we pay for our mumble server, in the event that anything should go wrong or cease to function, we will have access to help and support from our provider, where as with Discord we would be out of luck.

If it were my decision, I would say screw Mumble and move TF2Center to Teamspeak 3, to be honest.
