As I'm sure a lot of you are aware, we have had some difficulties assigning proper Mumble cooldowns for some players, and various issues have arisen as a result. After a meticulous investigation into the matter, we have established the following:

  • Mumble cooldowns were applied based upon IP addresses. This caused issues for shared IP addresses, causing unjust Mumble punishments. This has since been fixed to apply the cooldown to the SteamID of the user not in Mumble, not the IP address.

  • Sometimes, not enough Mumble samples could be obtained, which resulted in an unwarranted penalty. Also, Mumble occassionally could not detect the end of a match, which therefore lead to Mumble incorrectly assessing the duration of a match. These problems have both been fixed now; if you must know, the system will now go for a relative calculation when it detects excessive cooldowns in the same Lobby.

  • As we do not want users to suffer as a result of these bugs, all prior mumble cooldowns have been erased, as well as your previous mumbility level shown on your profile.

FAQ:

So there will be no more issues?

There will always be corner cases, but at this stage we can confirm that the system has proven to work in most cases. However, people with fast changing dynamic IP's are likely to have a problems, due to matching between in-game and Mumble.

Is there a way to find out if the system detects me to be in Mumble?

Yes, there is. When the Lobby is launched, a Mumble-connection status indicator will be shown. If that is green, you may assume you won't get any cooldown issues.

I have deafened myself; does this count as being in Mumble?

No.

I've just played in a Mumble-required Lobby with no issues and my "Mumbility" still shows 0. Why is this?

This means you were detected in your previous lobby and that you have not been punished as a result. Mumbility shows your current punishment level and should be 0 if you join Mumble during every Mumble required lobby; the higher it gets, the longer your next cooldown will last.

Thank you very much for your patience.
