I was wondering if you guys kept track of various lobby stats. If not I have some ideas:

  • time it takes for each lobby to start
  • time it takes for individual classes to fill
  • time it takes for sub to fill which class
  • number of subs requested per lobby
  • time it takes from lobby start for a lobby to fail/cancel
  • class restrictions (time played, lobbies played)
  • passworded slots (how many, which classes)
  • players (class pick, who sat down and left, who started lobby and left, who stayed from sitting to completion)
  • subs (who joined, and which class they subbed for

Then tie it to the other stats of the lobby, like:

  • map name
  • game type
  • lobby number
  • player who started lobby
  • etc

I would love to do some data visualization on that stuff if you do that, and/or help implement that type of data collection if you do not.

(FYI, I have a CS degree, and a variety of experience with web apps, web services, etc. from front end to back end. Also I'm looking for an excuse to do something with D3.js, and feel like this would be a fun project)

I wouldn't advocate releasing these sorts of stats to the public, at least restrict it to TF2C members. The question is, what would we do with this info? I'm not saying there's nothing to be done, we just need to make sure it's not a waste of time.

We're actually starting to track these, to pick up trends. Whether it will be public or not i don't know.

Why wouldn't you want people to see this type of information, I think it would be interesting to know most of these things.

I think the usefulness of the info would be just to have it and see what it is.  Some of us like accumulating knowledge for the sake of knowing more about something, Information doesn't always have to have a practical use aside from informing people.

Maintainability comes to mind.

I'd rather keep it private for a while until I can release  concise reports on it.

The dev team isn't a huge fan of making this public, at most we will make it available for TF2C members. However, we will be looking at these stats to further improve TF2C, and might contact stat junkies to help us out.
