Ive seen some people running servers without fastdownload. Some people may not have the custom maps the lobby is running. For a example in these photos I will be using upward(you already have this)

When you find the game you want to enter go up the top and press download map.

Attached File  image_one.png   332.26KB   6 downloads

If you are in chrome the download will look like this
Attached File  image_2_downloading.png   23.47KB   6 downloads

After it finishes downloading go the the folder where you downloaded it and put it into your maps folder. On my computer its file directory is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Team Fortress 2\tf\download\maps

If its a valve map put it into

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Team Fortress 2\tf\maps

After putting the map in that folder it should look like this

Attached File  2015-05-12_1532.png   319.23KB   2 downloads

Just a clarification: we set fastdownload for all servers.

sv_downloadurl is set to Arie's repository.

I am having problems with fakkelbridges.  Everytime I attempt to download, the download fails and pops up a massive amount of random text.

Problem fixed IE seems to have problems (my version) with the direct download.

Why don't you put downloaded maps to tf\download\maps?
It prevents you from getting error messages and such when running the map.

I must agree with Kaasu.  I was under the impression that tf\maps was maintained by the TF2 update process, and thus it was indeed safer to put unofficial maps in the tf\download\maps area.  Perhaps I'm mistaken, but, based on issues I've had in the past, that rationale seems to fit with what I've seen personally and anecdotes from others.  In mentioning this, I'm not trying to pick, but to hopefully help.

Ive never gotten error messages from doing it this way. Im not sure if the way you are suggesting was available when I made the guide as I dont think they had that part of community maps and stuff released.  I am most likely wrong on that part but. I will see If I can get someone to edit my post to add the placement you suggested.

I once tested playing on some random custom maps which I put to tf\maps and I couldn't run them. It was a long time ago, though, so nowadays the maps may work either way.
But the "download\maps" location has been there since the first years of TF2. Primarily the files downloaded from servers are downloaded there. The "normal" maps folder is dedicated to official maps. It holds both maps made by Valve and the community. That's why we should put all custom maps to "download\maps".

PS. Just add a mod and ask them about editing your post.

Added that. You are correct thank you for letting me know and helping fix the guide.

No problem. :)

Also...

If its a valve map put it into

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Team Fortress 2\tf\maps

... you don't need to list this, as you never download Valve maps. You get them automatically when you download TF2.

Anyways, you'd always better put all downloaded maps to "download\maps".
