Hello TF2 Center members.

I'm here to discuss if a TF2 Center website for Overwatch would be a good idea.

Yes I'm very serious, let me explain :

Right now all the LFT Overwatch websites are pretty basic, don't have many players and are inconvenient to use. Back when there wasn't a TF2 competitive, I seriously had a great time playing on TF2 center for about 100 lobbies, before I quit TF2 for good. TF2 center is easy to use, popular and offers a lot of advanced features. I think with that knowledge, the makers of TF2 center could create a great semi-competitive (or at least a more serious than quick play) matchmaking website for Overwatch.

I know it sounds easier on paper than actually making such a website. I don't really know how the lobby system would work for Overwatch, how much work that would require or even if the staff likes Overwatch, but I believe, if it existed, if would be quite popular.

Feel free to tell me if this is impossible and silly, or a cool idea ^^

The problem is that although Valve games are mostly open, Overwatch isn't. There is no API to pull player data from, I don't expect OW servers to stream logs (game data) for further analysis etc... That's why most game studios keep to themselves, to avoid TF2C taking over the world ^^

I came to this forum to find something out about exactly this topic, though my ideas might be a bit different. What I have found from playing Overwatch with random people on a Discord server is that, you ALWAYS need to coordinate who plays which role before you start playing. If you don't, being just being in a Discord server doesn't make a difference compared to using in-game voice comms in SoloQ. Because when you really need a Reinhardt or a Lucio many times there are nobody to play that role, or the individuals who can play the hero are already playing an important role in the team composition. Or you are gonna end up playing support again although you hate playing support (talking about personal experience).

What I am proposing is a system where the player inform his battletag, and through an API like this you can find out which rank and server the player is on. The player then chooses which heroes he wants to play, and the system will then find out which roles the player can fill out. For example if the player chooses Lucio and Mercy he will play a support role, or Soldier 76, Mccree and Pharah, will be a DPS role. The system should then put together a team of 6 people, where everyone has a predetermined role, and you can see which heroes you your teammates are able to play or should play within their role. Then the system should select a random player which the other players adds on Battle-net, so they can start playing.

I actually came here to find out how TF2Center is built, but I haven't found much yet. But if you see this @MasterNoob maybe you can help me out ^^

Dear God Nevermind The cost of doing something like that the right way, with proper licenses, CALs, et cetera you know, not opting for the one for charity and then battling to make it into something its not, Ill pass. Of course I could go the wrong way, but, eh, why?
