Title says it all.

Need a mute button for idiots that spam chat.

Example - http://imgur.com/Q838Tuu

Simple, easy.

Take a screenshot --> Copy URL of their TF2C profile --> Go to the Ban forum --> Report these idiots --> Chat ban for them is guaranteed --> Profit
Simpler, easier.

Alright, if seriously I see your point. But firstly, this isn't a trivial job and we don't have enough resources currently to work on such a minor objectives. Secondly, simple muting won't be a good lesson for these persons.

This is not a "minor objective" ! The request does make sense and is needed. If you admins see problems like this as "minor" and ask people to take screenshots, center will stay as it is currently. Full of insulting and unreliable people. Talking of the last point. You guys do absolutely not really care about the reliability problem. It's obvious that unreliable players should get banned and not only reported for one lousy lobby. If you guys want to see how to manage things better, take a look at the ETF2L admins. They do a better job.

First of all, you'll notice that kKaltuu is an admin here. Might ring a bell.

Secondly, muting people locally solves nothing, people will still spam chat as they don't know they're unheard. If you did notify them, then it would be even more of an encouragement to keep spamming. Punishing them for that behavior is a better long term solution.

Finally, you don't get to say that TF2C devs don't care of such and such. You probably haven't been around the forums too much, but you'll notice that there's a huge amount of suggestion and bug reports that need to be worked on, stuff far more exciting/important than the mute button.

Your point about reliability is completely orthogonal to this thread, but I will say this: leaders have the option of limiting people with bad reliability. That they don't do so isn't TF2C's fault. There will be some cooldowns implemented for Advanced Lobbies.

The mute button is not a necessarily a bad idea, it's good that it is being brought up,  but you do need to realize that anything takes time to develop, and that there needs to be some business value for anything to even be considered.

Maybe a better solution would be to have a cooldown time for chat. This would stop people from posting messages like this:

spam
spam
spma

Spam

Spam

spam
spam

If you posted messages too fast there would be a lets say 10 second chat cooldown time or something.

Use some string metric and disallow posting the similar stuff over and over again.

There actually is a cooldown between messages. No matter how long it is (within reason), people could spam.

So yeah, dev team agrees on declining this.
